Women ballroom shoes can be open-toe or close toe. Open toe shoes and strappy sandals are generally used in Latin dance styles such as Salsa, Rumba, Samba, Cha Cha, Jive and Paso Dobles. Closed toe pumps are usually meant for Standard dance styles such as Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep.
It is also important to note the women ballroom shoes come in a range of heel design and height which depend on your style of dance. Latin dancers may use slim or flared heels stilettos. Flared heels provide more stability. The heel height varies between 1” to 3” or higher. Beginner dancers usually prefer lower heels.  Grishko Pointe Shoes
A distinct feature of ballroom shoes is that they all have suede soles which provide the optimum balance between grip and slide on the dance floor. Dance shoes will usually have thinner soles than regular shoes. That is why it is not recommended to wear any dance shoes, including ballroom shoes, out on the street. The rough surface of the road can easily damage dance shoes.
