STD testing should be done regularly, as many STDs don’t cause symptoms.
If left undetected and untreated, STDs can cause permanent damage to the female reproductive organs, and affect your ability to bear children. STD Test Singapore
Who should get tested for STDs?
If you’ve had unprotected oral, vaginal or anal sexual contact, or have had multiple partners before, consider getting tested for STDs.
How is an STD test done?
The STD test process is simple.
First, your doctor will speak to you in detail about your sexual history, and check if you have any symptoms.
Read more about STD symptoms here.
After that your doctor will perform a blood test, which will be sent to the laboratory for processing.
Our blood investigations include tests for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis and Herpes Simplex Virus (Type 1 and 2).
Following this, your doctor will perform a pelvic examination.
A small plastic device known as a speculum will be inserted into your vagina, to allow better visualisation of the vaginal walls and cervix.
Some swabs will be taken from the vagina and cervix, and will be tested for 8 different infections, including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomonas, and candida.
Your doctor may also perform a Pap Smear, along with a test for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), during your pelvic examination. STD Clinic Singapore
Depending on your symptoms, your doctor may also order a pelvic ultrasound, to look for abnormalities in your uterus, ovaries or cervix.
Test results are usually ready in 1 week.
Your doctor will review the results of your tests with you, and recommend further treatment.
